Lily geçerliliği olan bir resim kursunun mülakatına gitmek için 'gizli'den yola koyulur, yolda arabanın tekerleği patlar. Ted'i çağırır. Ted'in arabayı tamir etmesinin ardından:

Lily: Ted, let's go to New Haven.

Ted: Lily, don't do this to yourself.

Lily: I just need to know if I can get in. If I do this interview, and get into the program, then I'll know, and I can forget all about it, and get married. Come on! It's an adventure.

Ted: No, it's not an adventure. It's a mistake.

Lily: Okay, yes, it's a mistake. I know it's a mistake. But there are certain things in life where you know it's a mistake, but you don't really know it's a mistake, because the only way to really know it's a mistake is to make the mistake and look back and say "Yep, that was a mistake."

So, really, the bigger mistake would be to not make the mistake because then you'd go your whole life not really knowing if something is a mistake or not.

And, damn it, I've made no mistakes!

I've done all of this, my life, my relationship, my career, mistake-free.

Ertesi günde okula önceki gün giydiği ayakkabılarla gelir. Polis bunu görür, özellikle ayakkabılara bakar. Kıza mı salak desem, senaristlerin bunca entrikayla başa çıkmak için olarak böyle ucuz numaralara kaçtığını gördüğüme mi üzülsem bilemedim.
